Gallbladder Retention of 75 SeHCAT

  • Chapter

Abstract

75Se homocholic acid taurine (SeHCAT) is a synthetic gamma labelled bile acid that best fulfils the criteria of a substance suitable for investigating distal ileal function in man1. SeHCAT is exclusively absorbed by the active transport site in the terminal ileum2, since its pK is lower than the physiological intestinal pH and since it is poorly deconjugated by the intestinal bacteria. It is then resecreted in bile.
