Abstract
Few fish have attracted man as much as the salmon, and its anadromous nature was known in prehistory. However, that part of the salmon’s life which is spent in the ocean has remained full of secrets, some of which have been unveiled, in part, in recent years. Although the marine phase has been intensively studied — or rather many attempts have been made to study it — there are still many gaps in our knowledge. This paper tries to identify the most important gaps in our knowledge of the ocean life of salmon and discusses the possibilities of filling these gaps.
