Abstract

The past 7 years have seen the introduction of ICI FM21 cells into a wider range of chlor-alkali plants than any other membrane cell. The size range of the plant has varied from l00000 tpa to less than 5000 tpa. The types of operation can be classified into:

  • Greenfield sites—completely new plants.

  • Mercury cell conversions.

  • Diaphragm cell conversions.

  • Replacement of membrane cells.

  • Demonstration plants.
