A Contribution to the Mechanism of the Hydrogenation of Nd-Fe-B-Alloys and the Use of Hydrogenated Alloy for Permanent Magnet Production

Abstract

The relationship of Nd-content and hydrogen absorption behaviour of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnetic alloy was studied. Measurements showed that the higher the Nd-content of the alloy the more hydrogen is absorbed. With increasing Ndcontent the activation time for hydrogen absorption decreases. In the pressure range between 10−3 and 1200 mbar no plateau pressure typical for stable hydrides could be found. The influence of the hydrogenation of Nd-Fe-B alloys on the production of permanent magnets is described especially for the milling step.
