Abstract
When studying failure processes in laminated composites, it is useful to monitor the progression of damage throughout the load history of the material. A variety of test techniques can provide information about damage accumulation, but many of these techniques infer the damage states from some sophisticated interpretation of the raw data. Only two techniques, X-ray radiography and edge replication, give a direct indication of the damage state. The present chapter provides a brief description of edge replication, a technique for the in situ documentation of damage in laminated composites.
