Abstract

The thermodynamic properties of the system polyethylene oxide (PEO) / water were investigated with osmotic measurements in a temperature interval ranging from 283 – 323 K. To carry out these experiments in a large concentration range a differential technique has been used by measuring the osmotic pressure difference between two solutions of different concentrations. Measurements of osmotic vapour pressure with a low molecular polymer and those of membrane osmosis with a high molecular polymer indicate that the polymer associates in solution as a function of temperature. The Flory-Huggins-parameter is independent of concentration and dependent on temperature in the investigated temperature and concentration range.
