Abstract

The limitations of immobilized dyes presently available in large scale chromatography are mainly due to the relatively high cost of sorbents, which results from expensive and quite complicated synthesis.

In this paper, we propose a general approach for the preparation of a dye-chromatographic support by copolymerization of special acrylic derivatives of dyes of interest. The chemical modification of pre-activated dyes (e.g. Cibacron Blue) with introduction of an acrylic copolymerizable arm, will be presented in the first part. Then the preparation of polymers and their characterization will be discussed.

These special polymer-dye supports should be of large interest since their production may be achieved at low cost and under reproducible conditions. In fact, it is easy to manage the total composition and properties according to the nature of the main monomer and the acrylic dye as well as the concentration of different monomers.
