Abstract

This paper consists of a review of the present position with respect to structural ceramics and their evolution in the period 1985–87. Powder and fibre production, as well as new processing techniques, are considered first. A large part of the review is devoted to new kinds of materials, and covers single compound materials of the oxide and non-oxide type, as well as particulate and whisker composites. Finally, an analysis is given of current engineering ceramics reliability.
