Abstract
In the field of polymer processing, polymer feedstocks are converted into useful products. The methods of conversion are manifold and include extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, rotational molding and compression molding. The process parameters which influence these processes include temperature, speed, pressure, thickness and position. To make a successful product it is necessary to control these temperatures, speeds, pressures, thicknesses and positions. If they are not controlled, many parts will be rejected as substandard, and the performance of many others will be less than might have been. The degree of control depends upon how demanding the end-use specifications are. For example, compounded pellets formed to tight tolerances are unnecessary. However, blown film must be of uniform thickness over a small gage and tight dimensional tolerances must be held.
