Abstract
The expression, neoplastic progression, refers to the evolution of neoplastic cells from a less to a more malignant state. This evolutionary process is associated with increasing refractoriness to therapy, increasing metastatic potential, and usually a decrease in the level of differentiation of the neoplasm. Karyotypic evolution is often recognized during this process. The key(s) to understanding neoplastic diseases and hence the key to their control, probably is to be found within this process. We have been studying neoplastic progression in the myeloid leukemias and what follows is a discussion of our concepts of this process.
