Abstract

Recent models based on the concept of “biased galaxy formation” predict that dwarf galaxies should be more uniformly distributed than luminous galaxies on large scales. In particular, dwarf galaxies are expected to fill the voids. This paper reviews all available information on the large-scale distribution and clustering properties of different types of dwarfs, including objects of extremely low surface brightness. It is shown that the observational evidence is AGAINST a large-scale segregation between giants and dwarfs. Residual differences on smaller scales can be attributed to the morphology-density relation. Consequences for “biased galaxy formation” are briefly discussed. A future merit of mapping dwarf galaxies is that they may reveal the FINE-STRUCTURE of the large-scale structure of the Universe.
