Abstract
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X — ray micro analysis (EDS) have been applied to characterize the fibre — matrix interfaces in P100 and M40 graphite (Gr)/AZ61 Mg alloys respectively. In both composites areas of exfoliation between fibre and matrix were observed. Coarse precipitates averaging a few μm in size and enriched with Al were formed at the interfaces could mostly be identified as Mg17Al12. Reaction products or reaction zones were not observed in both composites.
