The Effect of Resin Flexibility on the Creep Behaviour of Filament-Wound Glass-Reinforced Resin Pipes

  • Chapter
Developments in the Science and Technology of Composite Materials

Abstract

This study deals with the long term behaviour of filament wound glass fiber/resin pipes internally pressurized. The samples under study were exposed to water at 60°C for 3000 hours before being tested in creep. It has been seen that the life time of the pipes is governed by the critical creep strain to failure of the liner. Moreover the use of a more flexible resin affects the life time, the damage kinetic’s, and the failure mechanisms.
