Abstract

In order to etablish DCB as a general quantitative method, an advanced understanding on this configuration is necessary. Using different angle ply laminates of glass/epoxy, we have tried to explain the effect of lay-up of laminates upon the pure mode I critical energy release rate. The results obtained revealed that in the multidirectional DCB specimen, three dimentional effects are too strong to be negnected. Application of the compliance method requires a more exact theoretical analysis. GIc measured in this study seems indenpendent of specimen rigidity, but varies with curvature couplings ky/kx and kxy/kx.
