Abstract
By means of the numerical simulation of viscoelastic flows, we show that some experimentally observed effects, such as delayed die swell and anomalous transport properties in the flow around circular cylinders, are related to the change of type of the vorticity equation, when the viscoelastic Mach number exceeds one.
