Abstract
A new class of composite inorganic exchangers has been prepared by the intercalation and calcination of highly polymerised Cr3+ polyhydroxide species into α-tin phosphate. The materials have free heights of 6.7 and 7.6 Å and surface areas of 198- and 219 m2 g-1. There is some saturation of potential exchange sites by the chromia pillars. Nevertheless, cation exchange capacities for Co2 +, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Pr3+ are still relatively high. They are promising as selective ion exchangers.
