Abstract

Most malignancies of the blood and bone marrow are readily diagnosed and classified by traditional cytological and cytochemical methods. However, a number of additional techniques including ultrastructural, karyotypic and immunological marker analysis have been employed. All these additional methodologies, of which immunological analysis has been the most popular, have usually been performed for confirmatory rather than primary diagnostic reasons. However, genuine problems do occur sufficiently often for most haematological laboratories to have some interest in immunological marker techniques.
