Abstract
The development of azapropazone more than twenty years ago was initiated by the discovery of compounds of the 1,2-dihydro-1,2,4-benzotriazine group with marked anti-inflammatory effect. The majority of those compounds proved, however, to the rather toxic in investigations carried out in the rat. The observation that fussing alkylmalonic acids at the 1,2 position of benzotriazine reduces the toxicity of these substances without diminishing their anti-inflammatory effect was therefore a decisive step forward
