Abstract
The law of human organ donation varies from country to country, although in broad terms the legal requirements, both by statute and at common law, denote substantial similarities. This chapter provides an overview principally of the statutory requirements relating to heart transplantation in the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK), and the Republic of South Africa (RSA) in comparison with the relevant laws in other countries. Comments will also be made pertaining to medical malpractice. Professional ethical codes and issues relating to civil litigation in general will not be discussed.
