Abstract

When allograft failure or severe dysfunction of an orthotopically or heterotopically transplanted heart occurs from whatever cause, replacement of the heart may be indicated and can substantially extend patient survival. There are surprisingly few reported data on the indications for retransplantation, or on the complications and results of this procedure1–9.
