OSI-Based Network Management for Industrial Networks

  • Conference paper
ESPRIT ’90

Abstract

Network Management (NMT) is one of the key areas within CNMA Phase 4 and the currently planned Phase 5. Most NMT standards are still immature and their promotion has therefore highest importance.

CNMA NMT is based on the OSI Management Framework (OSI7498-4). The NMT Applications are based on several standards. With the exception of CMIS/P (status DIS) these standards have at most Draft Proposal status.

Currently CNMA supports one Manager System and several Managed Systems. NMT is performed through communication between System Management Application Processes (SMAPs) executing on these systems. Agent SMAPs collect or modify management information under control of the Manager SMAP. Manager Applications process all collected information in order to achieve Configuration Management, Performance Management and Fault Management.
