Abstract
Elevated benign choroidal nevi are among the most frequently encountered ‘pseudomelanomas’ which clinically mimic malignant choroidal melanomas. These tumors call for an examination with Standardized Ophthalmic Echography in order to safely differentiate them from the malignant melanomas. While there are features typical of choroidal nevi noted ophthalmoscopically, the vast majority of these lesions, when elevated, cannot be differentiated safely from malignant melanomas with ophthalmoscopy, fundus biomicroscopy and fluorescein angiography alone.
