Abstract
The optical eye length cannot be measured by ultrasound because the macular cones do not respond to ultrasound. Given an apopropriate equipment the only measurable distance by ultrasound is the distance to the inner retinal surface, i.e. the inner eye length. To add 0.2 mm to the inner eye length gives us the optical eye length.
In our measuring technique this addition has nothing to do with a fudge factor, it is necessary. For clinicians it would be very helpful if all available ultrasound equipments would work this way even in long eyes.
