Summary

We measured the lens thickness in a group of patients with normal lenses compared to a group of patients with different age and with various types of lens opacities.

We obtained these measurements with standardized A-scan using the immersion technique and on the basis of R.F. signals obtained by A-mode ultrasonic measurement. The measurements in microseconds were obtained along the optical axis of the lens, utilizing Ossoinig’s immersion shell and using a 15 MHz probe.

This paper has been awarded in 1988 by the Italian Society of Ophthalmology.
