Summary
The reliability of the Storz Alpha Biometric Ruler was found to compare very favourably with the Kretz 7200MA A-scan instrument.
The Storz Alpha II Biometric Ruler was used to measure the position of the crystalline lens with the subject upright, prone and supine. Initial measurements were recorded under cycloplegia. On another visit a random seies of accommodative stimuli were presented and the ocular dimensions recorded from the contralateral eye. Age, sex, refraction and amplitudes of accommodation were noted. This study aims to provide a guide to the possible effects of head posture on ocular dimensions and to determine whether any assistance to accommodation is provided by gravity.
