Part of the book series: Developments in Hydrobiology ((DIHY,volume 56))

Abstract

The purpose of the Tjärnö meeting was to bring together as many researchers as possible currently working on Littorinids and other intertidal snails. In reviewing the papers it became clear that Littorinid research has taken a number of directions, and that substantial progress has been made in two main areas: systematics and variation, and the ecological role of Littorinids in the wider community. This paper is an attempt to synthesise those papers presented at Tjärnö which are relevant to these main themes.
