Abstract
Joseph C. Pitt has written “harsh words,” as he recognizes, against my book and against the entire philosophic enterprise it represents. Since fire must sometimes be fought with fire, I suppose my response will also sound harsh. This is not my accustomed tone, but for the issues between us to stand out as sharply as their importance requires, such straight talk from me is unavoidable.
