Abstract
Up to now, the analytical statistical theories we have considered concerned mainly1 what one could call ideal turbulence, in the sense that isotropy was nearly always assumed, either in three or in two dimensions. We have, however, also discussed in Chapter III the dynamics of more realistic flows, in the context of transition and coherent structures in particular. We have chosen in this last chapter to consider two examples of turbulent flows which both have a great practical importance, and which may be considered as prototypes for the applications of certain concepts, analysis and techniques developed in the preceding chapters.
