Near Surface Irregular Wave Kinematics

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 178))

Abstract

Accurate assessments of the wave kinematics in the near surface zone are extremely important for obtaining reliable estimates of hydrodynamic loads and response of offshore structures. Measurements to verify kinematics models in this area are, however, very rare due to the inherent problems. A model test program including measurements and analyses of near surface kinematics in irregular waves is presented. The model set-up provided continuous time series of wave kinematics which have been compared with predictions from 2nd order irregular wave theory.
