Abstract
The question of which types of supernovae are associated with neutron stars is considered from the perspective of supernova observations and current ideas about their progenitors and explosion mechanisms. SNe la do not leave neuron stars; some but not necessarily all SNe II do; SNe lb may or may not. These conclusions lead to rough limits on the fraction of Galactic supernovae that leave neutron stars and on the rate at which neutron stars are born via Galactic supernovae. The question of whether these limits are in conflict with evidence from supernova remnants and pulsars is discussed briefly.
