Abstract
Wide spread application of laser therapeutics has been developing in many different fields of medicine. But a universal laser source does not exist. One specialty may need two lasers, like Gastroenterology (Argon and Nd:YAG) or Dermatology (Argon and CO2), without having the budget to buy two different laser sources. When a specialty starts to explore the possibilities of laser treatment, it may require several laser sources for one particular indication. This has facilitated the sharing of laser facilities among different specialists. After three years of informal multidisciplinary work (1978–1982) in the laser room of the gastroenterology department, a Multidisciplinary Laser Center was created at the Lille University Hospital (May 1982). This chapter will describe the Center and its activity.
