Abstract
The rotifer assemblage of a small marsh-pond and one large marsh/swamp system in the Kingston, Ontario area was investigated for four years. The remarkably diverse (177 species) rotifer fauna contained many species considered very rare. Autecological and taxonomic description of some of these species is presented, and the wider implications of wetland investigations are discussed. The following species are new for Canada: Collotheca trilobata, Diplois daviesiae, Encentrum tyrphos, Eosphora thoides, Itura chamadis, Notommata fasciola, Pleurotrochopsis anebodica, Trichocerca bicuspes, Trochosphaera solstitialis.
