Abstract

Quantitative vegetation parameters are often more suitable than floristic vegetation data to investigate animal-habitat relationships or the effects of biotope management on plant communities (Buttler 1992, Dolek 1994, Mitchley & Willems 1995, Oppermann 1990). In this contribution, vertical vegetation density profiles and horizontal density heterogeneity are used to characterize typical dry grassland plant communities of the porphyry landscape of Halle. The relationship between floristically (compare Mahn & Partzsch this volume: 169–172) and structurally defined vegetation types is presented.
