Abstract
In industrialized countries the incidence of cancer is steadily increasing and ranks now second as a cause of death. New techniques are therefore needed to optimize diagnosis of malignant disorders. While high resolution computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have improved the ability to detect changes in size or shape of physiological structures, it has become even more difficult to judge the significance of such findings.
