Abstract
The present work is dedicated to investigating the effects of radioactive contamination on natural organisms in the East Urals Radioactive Track (EURT) territory, which resulted from the nuclear accident at the Mayak Production Association in 1957. Radiation effects on terrestrial natural organisms at different levels of their biological organization, excluding genetic effects, were investigated. Furthermore, data have been obtained from experiments carried out under natural conditions in the EURT territory (exposure of forest and herbaceous ecosystems to a point gamma source and other ones) to compensate for the absence, in a number of cases, of the necessary information on direct observations of radiation effects on organisms in the contaminated territory (e.g. peculiarities of origin and distribution of doses in different ecosystem components, variety of organism species, etc.).
