Abstract
Tobacco SR1 (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv petit Havana SR1) and CF15–9, in which the axi1 gene is overexpressed, were grown in hydroponic solution with or without phosphate (Pi). Differences in root morphology were found between SR1 and CF15–9 plants grown without Pi. The tap root of parental tobacco plant (SR1) was longer than that of CF15–9. In contrast, dry weight (DW) of roots of CF15–9 was heavier than that of SR1. No significant differences were found in phosphorus concentration between these plants. These findings suggested the occurrence of interactions between axi1 and phosphate deficiency.
