Abstract
The influence of nitrogen supply to roots on the composition of amino acids in phloem sap and leaf extract of rice plants were examined. With increase in nitrogen concentration in nutrient solution, the proportion of glutamine (Gln) was increased in the phloem sap, but not in the leaf. On the other hand, the proportion of asparagine (Asn) was increased both in phloem sap and leaf extract. The increase in the value of Gm/(Gln+Asn) in phloem sap and decrease in leaf extract with increase in nitrogen supply suggested that Gln was transferred into sieve tubes from parenchyma cells more preferentially than Asn.
