Abstract

Flavescence dorée (FD) is among the most serious diseases known in grapevine (Vitis vinifera). Unculturable wall-less prokaryotes termed phytoplasmas (previously named MLOs = mycoplasmalike organisms) were constantly found associated with the disease (Caudwell et al., 1971, Quaroni et al., 1988) and considered the causal pathogens.
