Abstract
In this chapter the risk mitigation and control techniques are described. The main mitigation elements considered are: injections; Jet-grouting; Freezing; Cutter Soil Mix; Anchors (Nails, Bolts, Cables); Drainage; Reinforced Protective Umbrella Methods (Forepoling, Jet-grounting vaults, Pre-cutting, Pretunnel); Linings (1st stage lining, Spritz beton, Steel ribs); Final lining (In situ cast concrete, Waterproofing and water management systems, Prefabricated linings, Single-shell linings). A section is also dedicated to excavation methods (traditional, semi-mechanized, fully mechanized).
