Abstract
From mid 2005 to 2008 we have been using WFCAM on UKIRT to probe the near-infrared properties of Local Group galaxies lying at distances of 0.5–1 Mpc. In addition to the dwarf galaxies accessible from UKIRT, which are mainly M31 satellites, we have also completed large area surveys of the Local Group spirals M31 and M33. The combination of near-infrared data from WFCAM with our existing optical data across the entirety of M31, M33 and the Local Group dwarf satellites, is enabling an unprecedented census and study of the structure of their stellar populations. I show some examples of the near-infrared results obtained which demonstrate the power of WFCAM as a wide field survey imaging system.
