Abstract
Dirac video codec developed by BBC deviates from other standards as wavelet transform instead of INTDCTs is adopted. Pros and cons of wavelet transform are listed. Besides encoder details of Dirac, its performance comparison with H.264/AVC using several test sequences based on mse/PSNR, bit rates and SSIM is provided.
