Abstract
I will begin this chapter with a summary of the data regarding the putative evolution of nervous systems and brains and ask whether a general pattern of that process emerges. Then I will summarize the insight into differences in intelligence among extant animals, and I will ask to what extent these observed differences can be related to patterns of brain evolution. Finally, I will ask what are the driving forces behind this co-evolution of brains and minds.
