Part of the book series: Studies in Educational Leadership ((SIEL,volume 19))

Abstract

This chapter introduces the intentions and the arguments of our work. We wanted to explore if transnational influences change national and Nordic values and practices and contribute to forming them into a Nordic model of school leadership. We build on and develop our understanding of school leadership as we claim that not only structural and political contexts are important foundations, but this is also the case with the history of national and Nordic societies, cultures and values. We found that understanding the new influences is pivotal. And it is equally important to understand the situation and the historical background for school leadership, education and society, they are influencing. We introduce relevant transnational influences and societal and educational legacies in order to get a fuller picture.
