Abstract
In our world where trafficking, gender-based violence and abuse are seen in many countries, Cambodia is not immune. With a weak justice system, extreme poverty and cultural beliefs, these devastating circumstances allow for these issues to thrive. Hagar began in 1994 to address these abuses. Hagar works with women, young adults and children who have been rescued or escaped from sex and labour trafficking, domestic violence, acid burns and torture. Hagar walks the journey with their clients from brokenness to wholeness to restore them to resilient, strong individuals that can be reintegrated back into community with an education and/or job training to ensure that the abuse cycle does not continue. Hagar provides education for all of their children and job skills training for young adults and women in their care. Hagar partners with 38 businesses in Cambodia, which allows a variety of choices for career options, and Hagar works with each individual client to cocreate their future direction. In order to ensure that each client is truly restored to wholeness, Hagar provides loving home environments, counselling, medical assistance, legal aid and follow-up support for clients once reintegrated back into community. With 18 years of experience in Cambodia, Hagar has seen outstanding success with their clients, ensuring that all programmes are culturally and community sensitive and that each client has access to the best care and training available. Hagar is a leading not for profit organisation in Cambodia, setting new, higher standards in client care and always willing to take on the toughest cases and ensure that they do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes to restore life in all its wholeness.
