Abstract

Cancer presents high mortality and morbidity globally, largely due to its complex and heterogeneous nature as well as the lack of effective biomarkers. There is an urgent need to identify clinically relevant markers for better diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring treatment efficacy, and accelerating the development of novel targeted therapeutics. Proteomics study of cancer may identify and characterize functional proteins that drive the transformation of malignancy as well as discover biomarkers to detect early-stage cancer, predict prognosis, determine therapy efficacy, identify novel drug targets, and ultimately develop personalized medicine. The technology platforms for proteomics analysis have advanced considerably over the last few years. Driven by these advancements in technology, a number of potential biomarkers have been identified in the tissues, blood, and body fluids.
