Abstract
In this chapter we derive the kinematic and static equations for plane, straight beams. The reason why we do not treat beams in three-dimensional space is that this is not a book on beam theory—but rather a book on continuum mechanics which also shows how to derive theories for specialized continua such as beams and plates.
