Abstract

This paper presents the processing costs for node paths of the XML documents and introduces the query processing algorithms for linear path expressions and branching path expressions. Then, this paper compares the costs of XIR with those of XRel and XParent through analysis. The comparison results show that XIR is more efficient than both XRel and XParent for branching path expressions. They also show that XIR is significantly more scalable than the other two.
