Abstract

This chapter focuses attention on dynamic assessment (DA) of learning potential approach. DA refers to an assessment of a child’s perception, learning, thinking, and problem solving using an active teaching process, with an aim to modifying his/her cognitive functioning and observing subsequent changes in learning and problem-solving patterns within the testing situation. This chapter presents key concepts of DA in six sections: (a) the main criticism on standardized static tests, (b) the main goals of DA, (c) the major shifts of DA from standardized testing, (d) the major strategies of mediation in DA, (e) the use of DA in educational research, (f) the criticism of DA, and (g) the discussion on reasons for DA not being applied on a large scale.
