Abstract
This chapter deals with the essential process of strategic planning; it portrays strategic planning as a necessity in any kind of project, and links it with the vision and mission of the company in charge of a project development, whatever it might be, as well as with actions to be taken to reach objectives and achieve goals. It also comments on the stages needed for strategic planning to take place; these are intelligence, gathering, implementation and control, describing methods to fulfill each one. A case devoted to a commercial venture is proposed; it is divided into two parts. The first one is the execution of a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), and the second part is the development of the project.
