Abstract
This chapter introduces free-electron lasers (FELs) as high-power terahertz (THz) sources. The main features of the FELs are wavelength tunability and high-power capability. Brief principle of the FEL is described by explaining the electron dynamics in a undulator and the stimulated amplification of the radiation due to the interaction between wiggling electron beam and undulator radiation. The status of the operating THz FELs and recent developments of table-top THz FELs are summarized.
